Readers

Readers don’t need an account to access books listed on The Prolific Reader.
There’s a great mix of of novels, novellas, short stories, graphic novels/comics, children’s picture books, children’s chapter books and previews (sample chapters).

The type of offering (eg short story) is shown above the book’s description. For featured books, you can see the type of offering when hovering over the book cover.

If you’re looking for a specific type of offering (eg preview), and the genre page has a lot of books on it, you can use your browser’s search function (most commonly this is accessed via CTRL+F) to quickly locate any books that contains the word ‘preview’ in their listing. Alternatively you can use the tag cloud or search on the following page to find books: https://theprolificreader.com/search/

In most cases, when you download a book you’ll be automatically signed up (subscribed) to the author’s newsletter.

If you don’t really want to receive regular emails (they can vary from once a week to one a year!) you can simply unsubscribe when you receive your first email or newsletter from the author. Please do have a read of their first email, as you might find that they offer freebies, discounts and other incentives to stick around, or you might just connect with whatever it is they have to say in their welcome email. After that, if you still want to unsubscribe (the ‘unsubscribe’ link or button usually appears at the bottom of the email) they understand, and thank you for not simply moving them to the ‘Junk’ or ‘spam’ folder.

Currently LGBT books appear under the primary genre of the book. To enable you to identify if the book is LGBT, ‘- LGBT’ appears after the book type. For example, a Thriller LGBT novella will appear on the ‘Thriller’ page, and the book type will be displayed as ‘Novella – LGBT’.
Amazon.com is a great starting point, as the majority of reviews left for books are on the .com site. You also have the option of being able to ‘Look Inside’ the book, which allows you to read a sample.

You’ll find that many of the free books on the .com site are also free on the .co.uk, .ca, .com.au sites, and so on.

If the book is not exclusively listed on Amazon, it may also be free on Nook and Kobo.

We try to remove books that are inactive or have expired as soon as we’re made aware of them. If you’ve found a book that is no longer available to download, please contact us and provide some details so we can contact the author and remove the listing.

Authors

The Prolific Reader is no longer accepting new authors.
We welcome Indie and traditionally published authors. As long as you have an ebook that readers can freely download, you can join.
We accept previews, novels, novellas, short stories, graphic novels/comics, children’s picture books, children’s chapter books and non-fiction books.
Currently we list LGBT books under their primary genre. For example, a Thriller LGBT novella will appear on the ‘Thriller’ page, and the book type will be displayed as ‘Novella – LGBT’.

Science Fiction currently encompasses all of its sub-genres. However, as with fantasy, it may eventually be split out into two or more categories.

The Prolific Reader does not host any books. You will need to make the book available to download for free from Instafreebie, BookFunnel, your website or Amazon.com. Readers will find your book on The Prolific Reader, and click through to the relevant site where it can be downloaded.
